What to wear

We provide aprons but, just to be safe, we recommend wearing something you don’t mind getting paint on. Acrylic paint stains clothes.

What’s included

All art supplies and instruction are provided, including a pre-stretched canvas (or other material that you paint on), paint, brushes, easels, and aprons.

Food and beverage

Food: We have snacks available for purchase or you are welcome to bring your own outside food to enjoy at our Newton studio.

Beverage: We have a wide selection of wine and beer available for purchase at our Newton studio or you are welcome to bring your own non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy. Alcohol beverages are available at our Studio Classes, Private Parties, and Corporate Events and served only to painters 21 and older with valid ID. Please note: BYOB is not permitted in the City of Newton. No alcohol will be served during kids programs or at events where travel is involved.

Studio Classes and Kids Camps: You may register online.

  • For Classes: Reservations are preferred as space is limited — however walk-ins are also welcome! You may register and pay online by going directly to the Calendar and picking the painting of your choice.
  • For Kids Camps: Reserve your child’s spot today by picking your preferred Kids Camp date(s) and registering online.
  • If either are marked “Sold Out”, we encourage you to add your name to the Wait List. We’ll do our best to accommodate you!

Young painters

Painters ages 3 and up are welcome at our Kids Camps, Birthday Parties, and Pop Ups. Painters ages 8 and up may register for our Studio Classes and Private Parties.

Day and time

Classes: We offer evening classes at 6:30 pm and afternoon classes at 1:30 pm. Painting gets underway promptly 30 minutes following the start of class.

Kids Birthday Parties: Our Kids Birthday Parties are held throughout the day on Saturdays and Sundays as well as select weekday mornings and afternoons based on availability.

Kids Camps: Kids Camps are held on school vacation days, December, February, and April vacation weeks, and throughout summer vacation. Pop-up locations vary.

Private Parties and Corporate Events are based on availability. Please contact us for more details.

What to expect

Classes: When you arrive you’ll check in, put on an apron, gather your painting materials, and get seated. Seating is first-come, first-served and based on the number of people in your group. All classes begin with thirty minutes of social time perfect for grabbing a drink, getting settled at your station, and catching up with friends. Then our instructors will guide you step-by-step through the painting process. You’ll be amazed at what you can create, even if you’ve never picked up a brush before in your life!


Classes, Private Parties, and Corporate Events: Each session lasts approximately 2-2.5 hours depending on the painting and number of people. Birthday Parties run 1.5 to 2 hours depending on age group and Kids Camps run 4 hours.

Per person pricing at a glance

Pricing is based on time, day, materials, and other specifics. Customization, travel, overtime, and late fees, if applicable, will apply for all events. We are happy to provide a quote upon request.

Cancellation policy

Class cancellations made with more than 48 hours notice may receive a refund or credit to a future class. Cancellations made within 48 hours are subject only to a credit. Cancellations should be made by phone (617-467-5777) or email ([email protected]). We are unable to give refunds or issue credits for “no-shows.”

Private parties and corporate events

Leave the coordination and management to us. Our packages include everything you need for an event to remember.


We allocate a number of hours towards painting and/or mural creation along with one round of changes. Pricing is subject to change based on specialization of requests, time required, and additional rounds of edits.


Minimum numbers of attendees for Private Parties, Corporate Events, and Birthday Parties vary according to the day and time of the event. Typically, we require a minimum of 10 people on weekday afternoons and 30 people on most evenings.

Van Go

Our Van Go is fully equipped to travel to the venue of your choice for Private Parties and Corporate Events.We bring all supplies, however, you are responsible for providing tables and chairs. We are happy to tarp the floor for an additional charge.

The Paint Bar Kids

Kids Camp Only

Age: Developmentally appropriate kids programs for ages 3-5 and 6-11

Start/End Time: 9:00 am Drop Off in Newton; 1:00 pm Pick Up

Pricing: We encourage weekly sign up, although daily sign up is available (along with sibling discounts) by emailing [email protected] Please note: sibling discounts will not be refunded without email.

Snacks/Beverage: Please pack your child a SNACK, BEVERAGE, and LUNCH (ALL items must be NUT FREE). Campers must bring a water bottle.

Both kids camp and birthday parties

Where to go once you get here? 3-5 year old Birthday Parties and Kids Camp will be held at our lower level space; ages 6 and up at our upper level space.

Media Release: The Paint Bar sometimes photographs or videotapes our Kids Camps and Birthday Parties for promotional use. Permission to be included in photos and/or videos is implied by enrollment. Please email us in writing at [email protected] if you do not wish to have your camper included in The Paint Bar’s publicity.

Nuts/Allergies/Medications: Due to the prevalence of nut allergies, we do not allow nuts of any kind to be packed in children’s snacks or lunches. However, during our nightly adult classes, customers are permitted to bring in any food items that they want. Therefore, if your child has a severe food allergy, please call the office prior to the start of the week. Children may not keep medication in their personal belongings during camp. All medication must be checked in with the Instructors during check-in.
